Introducing the 20’s to Dartmouth!

Tell us about a highlight of your time at Dartmouth so far.

My freshman year was full of wonderful experiences that ranged from meeting presidential candidates to swimming in the Connecticut River on a hot spring day, but one highlight really stands out: my birthday was at the very start of freshman fall, and not knowing too many people yet, I expected it to be a normal day. However, to my surprise, my friends threw me a surprise party, and from that moment on I realized that Dartmouth students truly do look after each other.

What’s the most important item you forgot to pack when you came to move in?

A fan. Though it is known for its cold winters, Hanover can also get quite hot in the fall and spring, and not all dorms have air conditioning.

If you could go back to the beginning of your first year here and tell yourself one thing, what would it be?

Everyone at Dartmouth is incredibly impressive, and comparing yourself to others is almost never a good thing. Rather than comparing your experiences to those others, just be your best self. Strive to be the best you you can be, and do what will make your four years at Dartmouth the best they can be. Don’t make superficial comparisons between yourself and others; compete only with yourself.
